Beast Wrestler (Genesis) - Deathless Longplay of Paths A and B - No Commentary

Here's my deathless longplay of what are referred to as "Path A" and "Path B" in the 1991 game Beast Wrestler (AKA Beast Warriors in Japan), played on a US model 1 Sega Genesis with a Mega Everdrive Pro. I start with Path B (Dycoon/Diecoon fusion) since it's immensely more difficult than Path A (Ventor/Velvent fusion).

I guess I'll start by saying this SHOULD be a good game, but it is very much not. It's the ghost of a good game wrapped in the steaming wreckage of a bad game. Something about it always sticks in my head ever since I rented it in the 90s and makes me want to play the game in spite of it being bad. The concept of fusing monsters that you defeat with your own to make a stronger one is great, and the monster designs are pretty cool too. The music is also decent. That's where the good parts of the game end unfortunately. It somehow feels like the devs got 75% of the way through making the game and either the company ran out of money or they just stopped caring about it at all and rushed to shove it out the door. The attack hitboxes for each of the monsters vary to an extreme with some of them, most notably your own transformation in Tournament Mode after joining with Dycoon (inconsistently spelled as Diecoon in the fusion screen), being unbelievably problematic. That fusion makes your attacks land so far from your character that it's almost impossible to get hits on anything once they rush close up to you. It's hard enough to get some of the attacks to line up in the first placed without that added to it. I don't know how the original Japanese text is in the game, but the localized US version I play here has so many blatant typos across the entirety of the game that I have a hard time believing anyone even gave it a once over before calling it done. The different monsters are completely imbalanced with how difficult they are to fight. Federico is one of the tougher monsters to fight since it attacks so fast and you can't grapple with it. Allowena (the pink blob) specifically on Path B is the hardest fight in the entire game by so far it's not even funny. The A path of the game is mostly a cake walk since all of the fusions end up with decent attack ranges and specials. The special attack for the Allowena fusion on Path A can be hard to land since it's a running jump attack that requires the enemy be laying on the ground for it to hit. The game also has a Match Mode that I don't show here, it lets you play in one off matches as any of the tournament opponents. If you have any friends that you don't want to be your friend anymore, you can play against them in this mode and see just how out of whack the monster balance is.

Since the Fling Screw special attack is garbage to use, I always get Magnum Dash at the start. It's too bad there's no way to keep it for the rest of the game with it being possibly the best special. After each monster fusion, you're stuck with a new fixed special move for the C button attack. Both the A and the B path are effectively the same until the branch point after the fight with Driton, I've included the entirety of both paths in my single uninterrupted playthrough anyways. The difference in Path A starts at 1:10:42.
