The inspiration for this song came in 2008 or 2009 from learning a new chord. While I was perusing a back issue of Guitar Player Magazine, I came across the shape for an Fmaj7#11. Intrigued by its rich sound, I experimented with moving the shape around the fretboard and stumbled upon a G6 chord. From there I started exploring other chords to form a song. The progression is a classic vi-IV-I-V sequence, but the melodic notes and extended chords adds some variation, giving the progression a less conventional feel.

Lyrically, this song aims to capture the experience of stepping beyond the veil through praise and worship, entering a place of deep closeness and intimacy with the Father. The line, “as I bow down with open eyes,” draws inspiration from Numbers 24:16, where the prophet Balaam receives a vision of the coming Messiah. In this moment, God reveals Himself to Balaam, and his response is to fall in holy awe, captivated by the vision and unable to look away.

This song was originally set to be the penultimate song on a record I was working on with my band at the time. The album's theme revolved around the believer’s ability to enter the Holy Place through the blood of Jesus. Many of the songs currently on my channel were originally planned for that project. Unfortunately, the album was never completed. Despite this, I always had a clear vision of how I wanted this song to sound, particularly with the inclusion of a string arrangement. To keep the ideas alive, I created a rough demo that preserved the essence of the song. Now, 15 years later, I’m thrilled to finally share with you the vision that has been in my heart all this time!
