Build a Paper Craft NASA JPL Mars Science Laboratory. Pick your poison. One pattern in 1:20 scale and one pattern in 1:24 scale.
The 1:24 scale clocks in at a 1 on the hardness scale. "Few Pattern Pages, Low Detail, Intuitive shape. Build it without Directions"
The 1:20 is closer to a 4 out of 5. “An abundance of parts, some small. You think you might know how it goes together but you better follow along. Might lack directions"
Long story on this series. I continue work on the Shrek Head. That was supposed to be my first big video series. Life happens. What an honor to be asked to do a specific build by a Subscriber. Hence, MSL Curiosity. I had 2 patterns and have been shown a third by my subscriber. Many thanks.
We have 2 artists.
John J. was a prolific designer. He focused largely on unmanned Real-Space subjects many of the most famous unmanned science payloads of the past several decades. John's magnum opus appears to be a 1:40 scale full-up ISS and an exquisitely detailed, 1:12 scale MSL. Sadly, John J. graduated from life's hard lessons a couple of years ago according to the moderator on papermodlers.com. Many good thoughts to those close to John J. I’ve put the John J. 1:12 Curiosity in my wish list of vide builds. Let's cross our fingers.
The Julius J. 1:20 pattern comes from paper-replica.com. Julius turns out to be quite impressive indeed. Lt. Cmd. Lori reached out to Julius on the face book. Look him up. He apparently hails from Indonesia. His album includes Papercraft, RC aircraft, Cosplay and apparently a spot on Indonesian television. Man! I wish I spoke Indonesian!
Julius "owns" Paper-Replika.com. Wow. I've been collecting patterns from Julius and his friends for a decade or so. I never put two and two together. I emailed Julius through the PR Contact us. Here's hoping he replies! Is it the same day in Texas and Indonesia? I'll be googling...
WHAT PAPER DO I USE?:
I use "Bright White", premium card stock. 65 Lb., 176 gm/cm^2, 8.5 x 11 paper. Any old brand will do. Don't spend more than you have to.

A word about respect for an artist’s work. I clearly, bluntly found multiple instances of patterns I hold in my stash offered for sale on Etsy or other outlets. These patterns were in no way on sale by the artist. They are presented for sale by an Etsy seller with absolutely no association to the original Artist. Always look for a Pattern at a reputable free download before shelling out hard earned credit to some shady so and so who is too lazy to create for themselves. There are amazingly talented creators who sell their patterns for profit. They are obvious and they ain’t “Only one left no-really just one” on Etsy, Amazon blah, blah. Put your Latinum where it will support artists directly.
