This morning at the National Defence College, Karen, I explored a simple but powerful truth: national security is not built in moments of crisis. It is built quietly, daily, by institutions that function and the people who serve within them.
I opened this public lecture by singing Malaika with the audience (just to keep us all awake), before engaging senior officers and public servants from Kenya and allied nations on the strategic role of public service in fostering economic prosperity, national cohesion, development, and long-term security.
We reflected on how strong institutions reduce fear, unlock investment, and hold a nation together before, during, and after crises. As we advance Kenya’s people-centred agenda, investing in ethical leadership, capable public servants, digital systems, inter-agency coordination, and early conflict prevention is not optional. It is strategic.
Human capital is national security.
Public service is nation-building.
Hii kazi ni kwa ajili ya wananchi, na tukiifanya vizuri, Kenya inasimama imara.
