Pinocchio is an upcoming American musical fantasy drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is a CGI/live-action adaptation of the 1940 film of the same name, which is itself based on the book The Adventures of Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi. The film will star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Tom Hanks, Luke Evans and Cynthia Erivo with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan-Michael Key and Lorraine Bracco in voice roles.
Plans for a live-action remake of Pinocchio were first revealed by Disney in 2015, with Peter Hedges being set to write the script, before being replaced by Weitz, while Paul King joined the film as director in February 2018, and production being set to begin in 2019, though King ultimately left the project by January 2019. Zemeckis was later announced to be directing the film, with him and Weitz being announced to be writing the screenplay. Filming began in March 2021.
