In this 4 part series I res-erect a pair of tailors scissors.
P3 Having chosen a new stainless bolt, I dome over the hexagon end and add the square edge to engage with the scissors.
P2 • P2 Compton U Set Tailors Scissor Restorati...
I set about making the brass bushing for the hinge.
P1 • P1 Compton U Set Tailors Scissor Restorati...
in the first episode I cover the condition I got them in, the missing parts & how I think I am going to tackle the job considering (at the time) I did not know how the hinge worked.
I got these in a collection of tools, no hinge bolt just the two halves of the scissors, so I can only speculate as to why they were like this, thing is good quality vintage scissors can fetch a lot of money, so I decided to restore them.
They were made by W.H Compton Co, founded around 1890 & made many types of shears, scissors & snips, for cutting anything from leather to textile, paper to metal.
Trading under the names of Crompton, U Set &/or Reliance, all seem to be made in Newark NJ USA.
I am not sure if these are dressmakers (seamstresses) / tailors scissors but I'd have a guess they were.
