After being ostracized from their village, hundreds of families are now living in a leprosy colony in Bhubaneswar, the capital city. Yet, they do not own any land of their own.

The government has launched many schemes to make India leprosy-free. A lot of money is also being spent. However, to assess the real situation of leprosy patients, representatives of the World Health Organization have come to Odisha. The Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization for Leprosy Eradication has visited various leprosy asylums in Bhubaneswar. He spent a lot of time with the residents of the leprosy colony and understood their joys and sorrows. The ambassador stated that families affected by leprosy are still victims of hatred in Odisha.
