BARROW HILL celebrates the RAILWAY 200 milestone with gala starring LNER A3 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’

This event was headlined by the visit of the world famous Nation Railway Museum’s LNER A3 Pacific 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ alongside the networks newest products from Stadler in the form of a Rail Ops Group Tri-Mode Class 93 93002 and GBRF Bi-Mode 99002, with a treasure trove of heritage locomotives scattered around the site to be discovered.

We begin passing Burton on Trent sidings on our train journey to Chesterfield where an open top bus ride to Barrow Hill awaited, and we see train services in the capable hands of Class 55 Deltic 55009 ‘Alycidon’, Class 25 D7659, and Class 20 20066 all sharing turns on the Springwell Branch through the day with former resident steam locomotive Peckett No 2000, before the ROG 93 worked a special series of BLS evening trips. These had been set to feature 58023 but this failed during preparation.

Enjoy all the action from a great Friday spent at the event, exploring the Roundhouse, and riding the railway before we head back to Chesterfield with a stop via Derby to observe 37608 ‘Andromoda’ passing on a light engine move, and ROG 93006 stabled at Derby St Andrews sidings while heading to Polmadie depot open day, as well as a familiar drink in the old haunts of the Alexandra Inn, a pub that served us well during the Greatest Gathering, in the company of 37290’s cab, before we finally see fellow ROG 37800 stabled at Bristol Temple Meads this evening while heading home after a cracking first ever visit to the roundhouse!
