What Was the Indian Ocean Trade Network. The True History Explained.

Описание: For seven centuries, the Indian Ocean was the centre of the world economy — and almost no one in the West was ever taught that. This is the full history of the Indian Ocean trade network: how it worked, who built it, what it moved, and how it was deliberately erased from the story of human civilisation.
Before Columbus. Before da Gama. Before any European sailor had rounded the Cape of Good Hope, a self-governing commercial civilisation connected East Africa, Arabia, India, Southeast Asia, and China into a single breathing system of exchange. It ran on monsoon winds, shared law, and seven centuries of accumulated trust. It had no emperor, no central navy, no capital. It was the most sophisticated economic system the pre-modern world had ever produced — and it was destroyed, then written out of history, by the powers that destroyed it.
This documentary traces the full arc of the Indian Ocean trade network from its ancient origins in the Harappan maritime world and the Austronesian ocean crossings, through the Islamic commercial revolution that gave the network its institutional spine, to the great port civilisations of the Swahili coast, the spice markets of Calicut, the strait of Malacca, and the treasure fleets of Zheng He. It examines how the network actually functioned — the partnerships, the credit instruments, the diaspora communities, the monsoon calendar that governed everything — and what it moved: not only pepper and porcelain, but the compass, the lateen sail, algebra, and the decimal system. It then follows the Portuguese cannon into the Indian Ocean in 1498, the systematic destruction of Kilwa, Calicut, and Malacca, the cartaz extortion system, and the VOC's completion of what Portugal started. And it ends with what survived: in the Swahili language, in Indonesian Islam, in Gujarati merchant culture, in the mathematical and financial infrastructure of the modern world.
The history of global trade did not begin in Lisbon. It began on a monsoon wind, in a dhow, seven hundred years before da Gama left port.
