Imagine being unable to feel pain. Congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP), or congenital analgesia, is a rare condition in which a person is unable to feel physical pain and has never experienced it. Unlike disorders in the HSAN group, CIP has distinct symptoms and causes. Since the ability to feel pain is crucial for survival, CIP is a highly dangerous condition. Individuals with CIP often face life-threatening risks, particularly during childhood, as injuries or illnesses may go unnoticed. Burn injuries are especially common among those with the condition.
