Fact Check: Viral Assault Video Is NOT of Kangana Ranaut

A video showing a woman being attacked by a crowd after stepping out of a car has gone viral on social media. As she exits the vehicle, people are seen pushing her, pulling her hair, and assaulting her, while police officers wearing masks try to protect her from the mob.

Many social media users claimed that the woman in the video is actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, alleging she was attacked over her controversial remarks about Gen Z. Kangana had recently referred to the younger generation as the "gutter generation" while criticizing the language used during student protests and related social media reels.

One Facebook user shared the video with the caption:

"Breaking News... Kangana has been brutally beaten by a crowd over her controversial statement."

However, an Aaj Tak Fact Check found that the claim is false.

The woman seen in the viral video is Pranayita Das, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader—not Kangana Ranaut. The incident took place outside Kotwali Police Station in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, on July 30, where she was allegedly pushed and heckled by protesters.

The viral clip carries the logo of West Bengal-based news outlet JDS News. A clearer version of the same video was uploaded on its Facebook page on July 30, identifying the woman as Pranayita Das, daughter of TMC leader Krishna Das, and stating that the incident occurred outside Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station.
