GBS scale test Atlantic Basin

Описание: A large test campaign addressing critical aspects of installation and transportation of gravity based structures (GBS) has successfully been executed. The tests were carried out by the two Dutch research institutes MARIN and Deltares as part of the GBS WIND Joint Industry Project (GBS WIND JIP). The video shows a scale test of a GBS in the Atlantic basin a wave-current facility at Deltares.

Gravity based structures are widely used in civil engineering projects e.g. submerged tunnels, bridge piers, storm surge barriers and breakwaters and in large offshore oil and gas projects. These type of structures are now also being used as foundations for offshore high voltage stations and offshore wind turbines.

The motion of gravity based structures doing transportation and installation is not well captured by standard design methods. In particular nonlinear, viscous effects such as Vortex Induced Motion (VIM) and galloping are not accurately computed. Therefore, a large test campaign has started.
