Ubudiyyah, Elevation through Worship
This year, the Tarbiya Institute chose the notion of Ubudiyyah to guide its conversations and become the year's theme. No other month can more effectively articulate and emphasize this beautiful theme than the blessed month of Ramadan. This year, Tarbiya's Imams and guest speakers will focus on the spiritual gems shared by Imam Abul-Faraj ibn-ul-Jawzi's widely read book, Sayd al-Khaatir, or Captured Thoughts. In this book, ibn-ul-Jawzi wrapped some of the most effective gifts of spiritual admonition. Through the book, we hope that we can shed a brighter light on our acts of worship, and how to achieve the goal of Ubudiyyah, following the ayah in the Quran:
قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِى وَنُسُكِى وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
Say, “Surely my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are all for Allah—Lord of all worlds. [6:162]
