African wood owl sounds

Описание: Listen to the repetitive hoots of African wood owls - Strix woodfordii.

The African wood owl is one of the most common owls in Africa. Like its Strix cousins, it is a nocturnal species that lives in forests and woodlands. It's a medium sized owl and it feeds mostly on insects, with the occasional small reptile and mammal variation.

As other nocturnal species, they roost during the day and are active at night. After sunset their calls can be heard resonating in the bush. The main sound you can hear in this recording is the repeated hoot that goes sort of like WHU-hu, WHU-hu-hu, hu-hu. They also make a monosyllabic howl sound which you can hear in this capture, but it's much softer than the hoot.
