This epic movie originally lasted circa 9 hours. Apparently much of the film was destroyed after it had been cut several times,' leaving a 140 minute version that was disowned by the director.
The 1999 restored has many scenes reconstructed from surviving still footage and has very beautiful colour tint effects. This probably surpasses whatever tinting the original version may have had, but is definitely worth watching.
A very remarkable scene shows two bony arms grasping coins. The arms are unnaturally thin and it is hard to figure out how this effect was achieved.
