The mechanical engineering company Bausch + Ströbel Maschinenfabrik Ilshofen GmbH & Co. KG, which has developed into a company with more than 1,000 employees since its founding nearly 50 years ago, mainly produces packaging machines for the pharmaceutical industry.
The industrial machines have to be individually configured for each application in order to meet requirements unique to each customer. By combining individual work modules and using appropriate handling, transport and air handling systems, production lines are created for the solution of even complex packaging tasks. In the course of the plant planning, it is always necessary to work out problem solving on models built on the 1: 1 scale.
For this purpose, the company invested time and resources to produce mock-ups made of wood. To reduce this model construction, the operation of a Virtual Reality (VR) system was conceived, which visualizes the packaging machines in detail and enables the operator to check the necessary changes to the digital object.
"Digital engineering enables us to develop a systematic, interdisciplinary and intelligent approach to product development," explains Tobias Hörner of Bausch + Ströbel.
ESI | IC.IDO from the ESI Software Group, enables Bausch and Stroebel to evaluate the integration of their PRODUCT, the customers PROCESS, and production lines PEOPLE, to assure highest levels of customer satisfaction and to reduce their time to market by upto 30%.
"What helps us enormously is the parallel between the physical construction of the machine and the digital model. It enables us to align the digital images with the client and start programming," - Dr. Hagen Gehringer, managing director of Bausch + Ströbel.
However, Virtual Reality offers even more: the user can not only passively watch the planned system, but also actively use it with a controller under real conditions: doors can be opened, parts can be installed and removed. Even physical components such as gloves, the engineer can integrate into the model.
