Gary Westmoreland, the engineer at Agilent Technologies, explains how the new firmware upgrade, called “Fast Sweep,” can sweep faster when performing measurements on wave-like signals, such as spur searches or harmonics. It allows sweep speeds of up to 50 times faster using the new digital RVW filter in both magnitude and phase.
The Fast Sweep firmware upgrade is applicable to the following MXAs:
1. N9020A 503
2. N9020A 508
3. N9020A 513
4. N9020A 526
To help demonstrate this capability, Gary compares sweep times of two identical Agilent N9020A MXAs: one with the firmware upgrade, the other without.
He begins by setting up both MXAs to analyze 1GHz standard frequency and span using a peak detector. The sweep time is auto-coupled to the RVW filter, which allows the MXA to analyze faster without errors in amplitude or frequency. The upgraded MXA takes 36 times less time than the one without the upgrade to analyze the sweep, without sacrificing the dynamic range or repeatability for CW-like signals.
