Sweden is a Scandinavian country known for its breathtaking natural beauty and its advanced social development. It is a nation with remarkable religious and intellectual diversity, making it especially interesting. It is also worth noting that Sweden is among the most secular countries in the world.
Some statistics estimate that around 60% of the population identifies as Christian, with the majority belonging to the Lutheran Church of Sweden. There is also a very small percentage around 1.5 to 2 percent of Swedish citizens who identify as Catholic or Orthodox, most of whom come from immigrant backgrounds.
As for Islam, the first Islamic community in Sweden was established in 1949. The presence of Islam remained rare until the 1960s, when migrations began from the Baltic countries, Turkey, North Africa, and the Middle East. Today, Muslims are estimated to make up about 8 percent of the Swedish population.
As for Judaism, there are no official statistics regarding the number of Jews in Sweden. However, some estimates suggest that the Jewish population in Sweden is around 20,000 people. They have several synagogues in different Swedish cities, such as Stockholm, Malmö, and some other municipalities.
Sweden also has another form of religious diversity, represented by the presence of Buddhist and Hindu communities. Although their proportion is small compared to others, they add an important cultural and intellectual dimension to the religious diversity of the country.
