Max Gawn: 2016 All-Australian - Career Highlights (2011 - 2016)

Описание: Drafted at pick 34 in the 2009 draft by the Melbourne Football Club, many eyes were instantly drawn to the imposing figure of Max Gawn. At 208 centimetres, Gawn entered the competition as the second tallest player at the time, instantly making him a popular figure among supporters and his teammates.

Despite only playing 25 games in his first five seasons as a result of two knee reconstructions and form issues, Gawn showed plenty of promise as a skilful ruckman capable of taking a contested mark. During his time on the sidelines, Gawn made a name for himself through his larrikin personality, highlighted through his iconic beard and humour. After missing out on the round 1 squad in 2015, Gawn played in the VFL for the first half highlighted by his best-on-ground performance against Geelong in round 12 where he amassed an incredible six contested marks, setting the Demons up for a memorable victory away from home.

Gawn finished the 2015 season strongly, with many labelling it a breakout year. During the following pre-season, Gawn made the bold statement of wanting to be the best ruckman in the game (a title held at the time by then All-Australian ruckman Todd Goldstein). After a rigorous pre-season, big Max emerged stronger and skilful with an extra 10 centimetres of beard.

What followed in 2016 for Max Gawn was arguably one of the finest seasons constructed by a ruckman since his number-sake Jim Stynes. During the year Max produced many iconic performances such as his three goal performance against Collingwood on Queens Birthday and his seven contested mark second half against Hawthorn.

Max finished the season claiming the the first All-Australian Guernsey by a Demon since 2010, fulfilling his goal of becoming the best ruckman in the game.
