Understanding Arpeggios on the Ukulele - Ukulele Music Theory/Rhythm Tutorial

Today we are going to learn how to play arpeggios on the Ukulele. An arpeggio is when you play the individual notes of the guitar instead of playing all of them at the same time like you do when you strum the guitar. A lot of people assume, oh this is finger pickig. Yes, yo are right, finger picking is a form of an arpeggio, no, it is not the ceiling for this powerful tool. There is much more that you can do with them that is why we wanted to explore these ideas and show you how far you can take them. Mastering them will level up your rhythm, your soloing, your jamming and your fretboard knowledge, all really good stuff if you want to become a more proficient player on the Ukulele.

To make arpeggios it is a three step process.
1. Choose your chord progression
2. Figure out the individual notes in each chord, for example the C chord is C - E - G
3. Find the notes across the fretboard
4. Create your own patterns.

In a way this is kind of a music theory ukulele tutorial, because you are seeing how the chords are built, an understanding over intervals would help even more because you can construct your arpeggios even faster. Also look for shapes, once you have played an arpeggio in one shape you are also able to move it up and down the fretboard. The first example is limited to triads, which is just with triads, three note chord, but the second one is with 7 chords, you can get some really interesting ideas with the bigger chords. A Cmaj7 for example is a C - E - G - B and adding that B note can add a lot of color.

Taking this a step further which we will do in another video someday is something called super imposition. This is where you play arpeggios over different chords. For example if I take an Am chord, A - C - E and play a Cmaj7 over, C - E - G - B I get an Am9 adding the G and the B chord to my A minor, very very very cool.
