Nicknamed "King Kev" or "Mighty Mouse", Keegan was recognized for his dribbling ability, his lethal finishing, his surprising prowess in the air given his short stature, and is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was a master dribbler known for his quick feet and a prolific goalscorer, demonstrating a natural knack for finding the back of the net. He was an intelligent player who made smart, deceptive runs, often from a blind spot, to create space for himself and his teammates. He enjoyed his greatest success at club level with both Liverpool, where he became a talisman and the West German team Hamburger SV, where he played three years. With his move to the Bundesliga time he became a pioneer for his generation, challenging the status quo by becoming one of the first major English stars to move abroad and he'd become Europe's best player in 1978 and 1979 during his time there. He is shown scoring against Brazil, Team America XI (unofficial), Finland, Cyprus, Yugoslavia, Luxembourg, Denmark, Austria, Northern Ireland, Italy, the Republic of Ireland, Bulgaria, Argentina, and Scotland. He also scored against Hungary, Switzerland, and Wales. He played only 63 matches for England, scoring 21 goals. Though was a regular member of the England national team, even captaining the team on 31 occasions, he only managed to play in one Euro in 1980 and one World Cup in 1982. England was eliminated at the group stage in the former and though they enjoyed a far more successful campaign at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, he only managed one World Cup appearance due to a chronic back injury. Before that, England had failed to even qualify for the 1974 and 1978 World Cups, effectively impeding the brilliant Keegan from showcasing his talent at the ultimate football world stage. At the end of the video, he is shown scoring a goal against his ancestral country of the Republic of Ireland. England had enjoyed an almost perfect qualifying campaign for Euro 1980 when they hosted the Republic of Ireland in their last qualifying match, which was by then a mere formality since they'd already qualified for the tournament. Though Keegan was just as passionate and electrifying as ever, scoring both goals of the match that won England the game 2-0. His second goal was quite exquisite, completely fooling the Irish defenders and goalkeeper with a measured, clever chip that sent the ball into the net. A brilliant goal from a brilliant player. Keegan would end the qualifying campaign with seven goals, more than any other player, and as European Footballer of the Year for the second consecutive year going into Euro 1980, with star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge succeeding him and winning said tournament with West Germany.
I do not own the music.
