EU foreign ministers decided on Thursday to label Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization, as announced by EU foreign policy head Kaja Kallas. She condemned the regime, stating that any government slaughtering its own citizens is hastening its downfall. In a related move during their Brussels meeting, the ministers imposed asset freezes and travel bans on 15 people and six groups.

"This step was desperately needed," remarked EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, supporting the action and describing a regime that brutally suppresses public protests as truly terrorist.

Iran hit back sharply, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi calling it a "grave strategic blunder." He accused Europe of stoking regional tensions amid efforts by others to prevent full-scale war, insisting the EU wrongly branded their key military force as terrorists.
