HOW TO BUILD A HOLIDAY CHEESE BOARD
Choose a beautiful board or platter with plenty of room to pile on the good things!
Choose cheeses that have a variety of texture and milks. See below.
Starting with cheeses, arrange them in wheels and wedges on the board, then fill in with the meats, fruits, nuts, crackers, breadsticks, sauces, mustards, olives and more!
Cheese suggestions for your board are:
A creamy wheel like a triple creme brie
An herbed goat cheese “Chevre”
A semi-soft cow’s milk cheese like port salut
A stinky crumbly cheese like stilton or roquefort
A rich gouda like grass-fed gouda or aged gouda
A hard cheese in the parmesan family
Have fun with it! Pile it high! And enjoy!
EASY GOAT CHEESE CROSTINI
1 french baguette, sliced on the bias in ½” thick pieces
Olive oil
Salt and pepper
Goat cheese
Smoky Fig and Onion preserves from Euna Mae’s or a similar savory/sweet preserve
Crisped bacon pieces
Fresh thyme leaves (or finely chopped chives)
Preheat the oven to 375. Lay the bread slices on a sheet pan in a single layer, drizzle with olive oil, and dust them with salt and pepper. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes or until golden and crisp. Remove and allow to cool. When they’re cool, spread each crostini with goat cheese, top each with a dollop of fig and onion preserves, then sprinkle the tops with crispy bacon pieces and thyme. Great at room temperature so it’s a perfect party choice!
