Are we actually okay with being locked into tools we don’t control? For years, I was.
I used Figma because it worked. Until I realized that in a closed ecosystem, we don't own our tools. We just rent them. And the rent is going up.
In this video, we’re looking past the "feature wars" to talk about the real reason open-source design tools like Penpot matter: Freedom. Not just freedom from a subscription, but freedom from the "Monopoly Pattern" that turns designers from creators into extracted assets.
