This video features a very compact early 1950's Tonemaster guitar amp with a 3-tube circuit that is quite similar to the first (5C1) Fender Champ created in 1953. This circuit uses a 6SJ7 pentode pre-amp tube instead of the more conventional 12AX7 that came later, and although it offers less amplification, the 6SJ7 produces a warm, "tweed-like" tone. As usual, the amp is evaluated thoroughly inside and out, and improvements are made to both the speaker and the circuit. Before and after sound checks are provided.
