About Will Ackerman:
Will Ackerman is a pioneering guitarist and the founder of Windham Hill Records, the influential label that helped define the contemporary acoustic and New Age music movements in the late 1970s and ’80s. Based in Palo Alto, Ackerman started the label to release his own independent guitar recordings, but it quickly grew into a home for artists like George Winston, Michael Hedges, and Liz Story. Known for its pristine production, minimalist aesthetic, and elegant album packaging, Windham Hill became a cultural touchstone, bringing instrumental music into mainstream awareness. Ackerman’s vision as both a musician and producer helped shape a whole genre and launched the careers of some of the most iconic instrumentalists of the era.
