India is set to block excess water flowing to Pakistan from the Ravi River, a move that will redirect 1150 cusecs of water to drought-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The Shahpur Kandi barrage, completed after 45 years, will now divert Ravi River water to irrigate over 32,000 hectares of land in Samba and Kathua districts of J&K, and over 5,000 hectares in Punjab. This decision follows India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, citing Pakistan's cross-border terrorism.
