This video shows how to make a simple modification to allow winding bobbins without sewing on the Cowboy CB-4500 sewing machine. The sewing machine ships with the screwdriver and Allen wrench required to make the modification.
The winding motor I use is a household drill. The adapter for winding I use is a magnetic hex socket driver 15/32 inch I bought in a small set from Harbor Freight for $4. The exact socket size you use is not important. It just has to be filled by the grommet you choose to use to stay centered while winding. The magnet is only important to keep the socket shallow so the grommet you use sticks out above the end of the socket while winding for friction against the bobbin and to avoid scratching the bobbin. The grommet size I use is 3/8 inch.
After making this modification, the sewing machine will still wind bobbins while sewing when you want to do so.
