Pretty decent song, especially if you're into scene-core (hey, that's me!). My big gripe is a minor one, and that's the way the Artist tag is done here. It's been going on for some time that guest artists in songs have been in the Artist tag instead of the Song tag. For artists who we're probably not getting second songs from like DE'WAYNE (ft. POORSTACY) and Surf Mesa (ft. Emilee), it's fine-ish. For artists who need that guest name power to be part of it but also unlikely to see a second song from like Bloods (and Laura Jane Grace) and Kenny Hoopla (ft. Travis Barker), it's also fine-ish.
Then somewhere down the line, we have songs from artists who are already in the game as DLC, where all this does is separate the art from the artist... into a different artist completely. Stuff like All Time Low (ft. Blackbear) and Avril Lavigne (ft. Blackbear) and Machine Gun Kelley (ft. Blackbear).
We've got some moments where this happens multiple times like two The Pretty Reckless songs that do this (one with Tom Morello and one with Matt Cameron and Kim Thayll) that go along with their normal songs. Machine Gun Kelley too. While The Maine song looks ridiculous with Charlotte Sands and Adam Lazarra/Taking Back Sunday part of it, at least I can sadly say we're probably not getting a second The Maine song.
Now this particular song is from a reoccurring artist while featuring a "new" artist which also name drops the main act they're in, so you just get a mouthful of a name. Granted, we've had 'Nina Strauss ft. David Draiman of Disturbed' and 'Classless Act ft. Vince Neil of Motley Crue', but this isn't the first instance of using an artist with an already established catalog: 'Breaking Benjamin ft. Scooter Ward of COLD'. If you can't get the featured artist by name alone to draw people in, then why even have them featured in such a big spot in the first place?
You don't see "I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of? (featuring Mike Hranica)" or "I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of? (featuring Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada)" or "I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?" by A Day to Remember featuring Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada. Nope, you just have "I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?" by A Day to Remember. And you could make the argument that it was on Rock Band Network first, so that's why it doesn't have the feature tag. But also there were a decent amount of songs and artists that did this too that I purposefully skipped out on back in the day just so my Rock Band library wouldn't look like my iPod Nano and my six versions of Kylie Minogue. I'm sure I'm not alone in that thought process similar to how some people won't buy songs if they don't have good stems for it.
Again, it's a minor thing, but there's gotta be a better solution. Licensing is hard.
Also even though I forgot some more recent artists, I wasn't sure where to put Public Enemy ft Anthrax in this rambling of mine, but it's not like we're getting "Fight the Power" any time soon... right?
