Prominent ear : also known as bat ear or protruding ear, is a condition in which the ears stick out more than usual from the side of the head. This condition can be genetic, meaning that it runs in families, or it can occur as a result of an injury or a developmental issue.

The term "bat ear" comes from the fact that the condition can make the ears look similar to the ears of a bat. People with prominent ear may feel self-conscious about their appearance, but the condition does not typically affect hearing or cause any health problems.

There are different surgical and non-surgical options available to correct prominent ear, including ear molding, ear reshaping with sutures, and ear surgery (otoplasty). The best treatment option for each individual depends on the severity of the condition and the person's overall health and preferences

Otoplasty: also known as ear surgery or ear pinning, is a surgical procedure performed to reshape or reposition the ears. The surgery can be done for cosmetic or functional reasons, such as correcting protruding ears, correcting asymmetry, or addressing ear deformities caused by injury or birth defects.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions behind the ears and removes or reshapes cartilage as needed. The ears may also be repositioned closer to the head. The surgery is typically done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and it usually takes about 1-2 hours to complete.

After the surgery, the patient will need to wear a protective headband or dressing over the ears for a few days. There may be some swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication. Most patients can return to work or school within a week, but should avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks.

Otoplasty surgery is generally safe and effective, but as with any surgery, there are some risks involved, such as infection, bleeding, scarring, or unsatisfactory results. It's important to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure with a qualified surgeon before deciding to undergo otoplasty
