Ford said the 1964 Thunderbolt made 425 horsepower. That was a total lie.
In 1964, Ford was tired of losing to Pontiac and Chevy on the drag strip. Their solution? Take the smallest car they had (the Fairlane) and shoehorn their biggest 427 engine inside. They gutted the radio, the heater, and even the steel bumpers to save weight. The result was a street-legal drag car that ran 11-second quarter miles and destroyed everything in its path.
Only 100 of these American Muscle legends were ever built. This is the story of the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt.
