This is our first time watching Rambo: First Blood (1982) from start to finish, and let’s just say — this is NOT the movie we thought it was.

Starring Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a troubled Vietnam veteran just trying to pass through a small town, the film quickly escalates into something much deeper than a typical 80s action flick. When local Sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy) pushes Rambo too far, things spiral into a survival showdown in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

We also get powerful moments from Richard Crenna as Colonel Samuel Trautman, Rambo’s former commanding officer, who understands exactly what kind of soldier the town is dealing with.

What starts as a simple attempt to get a meal turns into a tense manhunt, a critique of how Vietnam veterans were treated, and one of the most emotional monologues in 80s cinema history. Stallone absolutely delivers in ways we did NOT expect.
