Exploring Kulaba Fort Alibaug | Middle Of The Sea | Mumbai Vlogs. Kolaba Fort is an old fortified maritime base in Alibaug, Konkan, India. It is situated in the sea at a distance of 1–2 km from the shores of Alibag, 35 km south of Mumbai, in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is a popular tourist destination and a protected monument.
The fort of Kolaba or Alibagh is constructed in the water. This fort is built on a wave-cut platform because it is surrounded by seawater, it is called a sea-fort. Earlier, these forts were built for the security of the seas.
Kolaba Fort is a sea fort built by Shivaji Maharaj in 1652 in the Alibag Beach of the Arabian Sea. The fort has a height of 25 feet and is at a distance of only 2 kma from the Alibag Beach shore. The most interesting feature of the Fort is that despite being a part of a saltwater body, the fort has a fresh-water well.
