Wireless Mic Shootout NUX vs AudixRAD360 HD 1080p

Описание: I compare my venerable tried-and-true AUDIX RAD360 to a new(ish) NUX wireless mic system. The RAD360 is the one I've been using since 2007 -- it still works fine, I love the design and the durability; it's been dropped, kicked, spilled on, and every other thing that can happen to a piece of gear through 15 years of gigs and it just keeps on working, but the frequency band is now illegal according to the FCC so it's time to purchase a new one.

The NUX is a cool design - the transmitter clips directly onto the bell so there's no belt pack; the batteries are rechargeable in the case like earbuds, and the system is based on 2.4Ghz WiFi -- it converts the mic signal to digital (at a 44.1khz sample rate) and broadcasts it over its own tiny self-contained WiFi network to the receiver, which is only just larger than the XLR jack it plugs into. The mic's built in shock-mount does a fine job of keeping key noise to a minimum, but to me the overall tone of the horn through this mic seems a bit lifeless compared to other, better microphones. There is also the potential for latency since the process involves A/D-D/A conversion.

The AUDIX meanwhile, is tried and true. The ADX20i condenser microphone brings out the "sizzle" in the sound of the saxophone, with every nuance represented. The receiver unit has its own gain control and the ability to change frequencies as needed, which makes it easy for several of these units to be on stage at the same time. And like I said, it's totally roadworthy; this piece of gear can take (and has repeatedly taken) a beating! It's definitely a product that's aimed more toward professional gigging musicians.

In most of the video I've panned the RAD360 slightly to the left and the NUX slightly right, so if you're listening with headphones you should be able to tell the difference directionally as well as sonically.
