weaving or braiding or plaiting flax is a sacred art here in new zealand and begins by connecting with mother nature, the planet and all living beings and thanking the plant for becoming an item that the weaver is creating
your first item should always be gifted to someone else
in our march of unity for protecting our people, the land and the water we are coming together with headbands "TIPARE" woven from "HARAKEKE" = flax
we have created a video demonstration for you to learn how to weave your own tipare and thus become a part in our sacred activism to save our ocean

our planet and life on earth as we know it are in grave danger and mother earth needs every single one of us to help her heal
to sustain ourselves and all other living beings we must live in awareness and take actions, each day to
preserve natural resources
protect and heal nature and live in respect of ourselves and others
invest every available resource into sustainable energy forms and divest from fossil fuel based industries
inform ourselves
be the change
know that we can create the outer world from within ourselves by living from our heart and connect to all others through the heart
speak up and stand up for what you believe in, do so in any shape or form in a non violent way
stop living in fear
live with intent and focus on the wider larger picture
learn to self-manage and replace re-activity with mindfulness and compassion

cape reinga represents the ancestral path for a safe return 'home' after a physical body passes away - and to disturb this sacred path is one of the many reasons why this must stop.
new zealand is not at all ready or prepared for an eventual oil spill, should oil actually at all be found - such spill would lead to the devastation and extinction of endless numbers of living species.
in the process of exploring sonar blast and seismic tests are carried out, endangering and most probably killing sea mammals.
there are 55 maui dolphins left in the world - and by allowing these explorations we are agreeing with their extinction!
are we really ?
petitions, marches, hikoi and endless talks have been taking place for a long time - not only here in new zealand but world wide.
disasters like the spill in the gulf of mexico does not have seemed to have been a big enough warning to some
this video has been made to be a symbolic 'march' of unity, four strands representing people coming together from all four directions this year for the annual waitangi celebrations to give their opinion a voice and express their opinion in powerful, non violent ways.
