St. Lawrence's Church is a very special work of art - some say it is the only "complete" high Gothic church. Yes, it has that feel within! Because you are not only visiting a building that has remained structurally intact despite bombings. The windows and almost all of the works of art in St. Lawrence's Church are also originals from the late Middle Ages.
Thanks to the prudent citizens of Nuremberg, the works of art were preserved after the Reformation and were stored during the Second World War. Construction of the high Gothic basilica began between 1243 and 1315. On the site of today's St. Lawrence Church there was previously a chapel dedicated to "Saint Lawrence of the Holy Sepulchre”.

We look more deeply at the ancient family shield and icon of the Elector of Mainz. This half wheel is used in a lot of the shields in this church. We also look more closely at the sacrament house of the Lorenzkirche from 1493-1496. The artist was Adam Kraft who was also a stonemason. He is also responsible for this masterwork, just next to this piece, which hosts an amazing 3D version of the Last Supper. This is called the tabernacle at St. Lorenz, which like all of these artworks survived not only the Middle Ages, but also WWII! Another amazing work hanging from the high arched, Gothic ceilings called the Angelic Salutation!

"Angelic Salutation (German: Engelsgruß) is an assemblage of life-sized limewood sculptures celebrating the Annunciation by the late-Gothic German artist Veit Stoss. It was commissioned in 1517 by Anton II Tucher and completed the following year. Tucher was a high ranking official in Nuremberg in southern Germany, and donated the work to the medieval church of St. Lorenz (or St. Lawrence) in Nuremberg, where it still freely suspended on a metal chain in the center of the choir, facing the high altar."
