In certain situations, we don’t always use words in our language for some things; this is one of those situations. In situations like this, it becomes descriptive, and in this video, we describe what hibernation is in the Island Lake Dialect of the Ojibwe-Cree language.
We list some of those animals (including some amphibians) that are found in the Island Lake area.
They are:
Bear - Muhkwa
Skunk - Sikaak
Groundhog - Weenusk
Garter Snake - Kinepik
Frog - Omakakee
Turtle - Mihkinaak
