Aralaguppe, a quiet hamlet in the Tiptur taluk of Tumkur district, Karnataka, is home to not just one but two ancient temples of historical importance. While the Chennakeshava temple here is a well-known Hoysala masterpiece (circa 1250 AD), Kalleshwara Temple predates it by nearly two centuries.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Kalleshwara Temple is believed to have been constructed in the 9th or 10th century AD, likely during the early Chalukya or pre-Hoysala period. It showcases a transitional style of temple architecture, bridging the early Dravidian style and what would later evolve into the rich ornamentation of Hoysala temples.
