Dr. Salvatore Aversa is an Italian neonatologist and clinician-scientist known for his work in neonatal and neonatal intensive care in Italy, particularly associated with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s Hospital of ASST Spedali Civili in Brescia and other neonatal research and clinical practice collaborations. He presented a talk “Systematized Systemic Sono-Screening: Lung Ultrasound” in the inaugural meeting of the Global Newborn Society at the Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden on November 4, 2025.
His contributions to the field include involvement in national neonatology research, such as intersociety position statements on the prevention of ophthalmia neonatorum and studies on neonatal risk management and clinical care planning for preterm infants. Aversa has co-authored scientific publications on neonatal care topics, including clinical practice in NICUs and issues such as discharge planning for preterm infants and care strategies for complications such as necrotizing enterocolitis. His active role in advancing evidence-based neonatology is well-recognized.
