Presenting Kum. Akkshitha Suresh of Shree Natya Niketan, disciple of Guru Vidushi Mridula Rai, in a Bharatnatyam recital.
This performance will commence with the pallavi of a keerthanai - kaal maari adiya, followed by the varnam - aadhi shivanai kanave aasai konden adi
This is a shringaaram piece where the dancer takes the role of a nayika or heroine who falls in love with the Lord Shiva after watching his enigmatic aanandha taandavam. She later finds herself reminiscing this love and shares with her saki or friend the deep desire she feels to see Him. She elucidates the story of Lord Shiva’s union with Devi Meenakshi and wonders when her time will come. She extols His grace and says that even the Lords - Vishnu and Brahma were unable to comprehend His greatness as the jyothiswaroopam, emphasising that there is none as omnipresent and all empowering as her Shiva. Throughout the varnam, her desire overwhelms her and the piece ends with the nayika stating that she fears no judgements, is not afraid of the world and her love is no secret. She herself sets to go in search of the Lord and unite with him.
Kaal mari adiya - a composition of Thirumathi Andavan Pichai in kuntala varaali ragam and aadhi thalam.
Aadhi Shivanai Kaana - a composition of Dhandayudhapani Pillai in thodi ragam and aadhi thalam.
Choreographed by Guru Vidushi Mrudula Rai
