Learn more about studying the saxophone at the Junior RIAM with saxophone teacher Kenneth Edge. Junior RIAM students enjoy one-to-one access with some of Ireland's leading musicians and teachers, regular opportunities to perform with RIAM performing groups and choirs, and a clear pathway to a career in music performance, education, and management.
Individual Lessons
Junior RIAM offers individual tuition to students from age 8+ . Our faculty are experienced and enthusiastic teachers, providing guidance in technique, style and interpretation across over 20 different instruments and voices. For orchestral students, individual tuition is combined with ensemble performance, starting with string orchestra or junior wind ensemble and building up to symphony orchestra.
The best availability for individual tuition is in the following disciplines:
Violin, Viola, Double Bass, Harp, Guitar
Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion
All Voice Types
Piano, Organ
Early Years Training
For our youngest students, we have the following Early Years group training programmes:
Pre-instrumental group classes (Age 4 - 8)
Introduction to Recorder group classes (Age 7 - 12)
Introduction to Piano group classes (Age 6 - 8)
Introduction to Violin group classes (Age 6 - 8)
Introduction to Brass group classes (Age 6 - 12)
Introduction to Guitar group classes (Age 7 - 10)
Early years students are accepted into RIAM’s programmes without audition. These classes build and develop the young student's musical skills and awareness. Early years students can subsequently apply to one-to-one study once their technical facility and physical stamina have reached the levels required to take up an instrument.
