Kuje Area Council of the FCT is gradually losing its forest reserves, an environmental crisis unfolding amid growing demand for farmland and housing, driven by rapid population growth.
This deforestation is further worsened by the widespread cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal, as residents seek affordable alternatives to cooking gas and electricity.
In the past four years, Kuje has lost over 3,000 hectares of natural forest, according to Global Forest Watch.
