The 30th Kathmandu Metropolitan City Day was celebrated on December 14, 2024. The day was marked with a program where the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) honored 10 individuals with cash prizes of Rs 150,000 each. The recipients included:
Folk singer Kumar Basnet
Painter Kiran Manandhar
Dr Arun Sayami, former mayor of KMC
PL Singh, former mayor of KMC
Artist Narendra Kansakar
Litterateur Malla K Sundar
Taekwondo player Sangina Baidya
Volleyball player Pratibha Mali
Ultra marathon runner Mina Rai
Cricketer Gyanendra Malla
Some people described their experience of participating in the 30th Kathmandu Metropolitan City Day as unforgettable, joyful, and proud. They also said it was inspiring to see the city's unique unity in diversity.
Kathmandu was declared a metropolitan city in 1995 by mayor Prem Lal Singh. Keshav Sthapit was elected as the first mayor of the metropolitan city in 1997.
