The Pigeonhole Principle is the mathematical buzzword for a simple idea. If you distribute n+1 balls among n boxes, then some box must be home to 2 or more balls. In other words, we have a mathematical tipping point: we cannot avoid repeating a box.
This observation is easy to understand. But it turns out that it is not always easy to realize that you are looking at a "tipping point" problem.
