Three things that all first time homebuyers should know and do after buying a house is:
1. Change the Locks. Presumably, there were lots of realtors and people walking in and around the property. Whether it's the garage code or the side gates or front doors, change all of the locks now that you're the new owner.
2. Increase your Term Life Insurance. This might sound a little morbid, but here's why: If something happens to one of the people that is paying for the home right after you move it, the people left behind will have to move out of the brand new home. If you increase your life insurance to at least 10x your income or at least enough to pay of the new home at the new price point, you'll rest easy knowing that if something happens to you, your family will not have to move right after the loss of your passing.
3. Get out and meet your new neighbors. If your neighborhood has a golf cart parade or they have the Next Door app or a Facebook Page for your community, get in and on it. That's the best way to quickly join this new community of Bakersfield after you've bought your home here.
