His essay ‘Pride and Punishment’ is a compelling statement on the beauty and complexity of Nigerian heritage. In conversation with Manasi Subramaniam, Editor-in-Chief at Penguin Random House India, Obioma discusses his upcoming book and the narratives that have formed his writing life.

Chigozie Obioma was born in Akure, Nigeria. His two novels, The Fishermen and An Orchestra of Minorities were finalists for the Booker Prize and have been translated into more than 30 languages. They have won awards including the LA Times Book Prize, Internationaler Literarturpris, and have been nominated for more than two dozen others. He lives between Nigeria and the USA.

Manasi Subramaniam is Editor-in-Chief at Penguin Random House India, where she heads the literary division's flagship imprints. She has published some of the most exciting new voices across South Asia, including winners of the Booker and Pulitzer prizes, among others.
