In one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, temperatures can plunge to an unimaginable −71°C (−96°F). Here, life is a relentless battle against nature — where a few minutes outside without protection can result in instant frostbite or even death.
Everything freezes in this extreme cold. Smartphones shut down, car engines fail, breath turns to ice, and the air itself burns your lungs with every inhale.
Reaching this frozen land is a journey of endurance. We traveled 7 hours east from Moscow to Yakutsk, followed by an 18-hour, 900 km drive across endless snow and ice. What we found was surreal — a near-silent village of about 800 people, built on permanently frozen ground where growing food is impossible.
To survive outdoors, locals wear up to 20 layers of traditional reindeer fur clothing, weighing nearly 14 kilograms. Even then, the cold never truly loosens its grip. Every exposed inch of skin is at risk, and survival depends on experience, preparation, and resilience.
This documentary reveals what life is really like in Oymyakon, where winter dominates everything and survival is an everyday challenge beyond imagination.
