The bloodiest single day of the Civil War was fought here in 1862—and that single battle helped pave the way for the Emancipation Proclamation. Standing in those quiet fields, the weight of it all is impossible to ignore.
Women were part of this war too, working in the shadows as spies and couriers. Their stories live on in my novel Underground. 📚
