Last time in our Shimla travel series, we finally reached India’s last village Chitkul and visited the beautiful Mathi Temple. But this time, we went even further—towards the India–Tibet (China) border side for a real “end of the road” Himachal experience!

This drive is not like a normal tourist route. Pehle Indian Army/ITBP checkpost aata hai, jahan passengers (mere 8 friends) aur vehicle details note kiye jaate hain, IDs verify hote hain, and then only you’re allowed to go ahead. They also ensure that jo log entry kar rahe hain, wahi same log return karein, and the same vehicle is used—so please follow the rules strictly and keep everything handy.

After the checkpost, we explored the India–Tibet border region from a small mountain peak viewpoint—pure silence, icy winds, unreal landscapes, and that feeling of standing near one of India’s most sensitive frontiers. Truly an amazing experience and one of the most memorable parts of our Kinnaur/Baspa Valley road trip.

Travel tips (don’t skip):

Carry original ID + a photocopy (Aadhaar/Driving License/Passport), and keep everyone’s docs ready before the checkpost

Reach early (weather changes fast; visibility can drop anytime)

Network is unreliable, so download offline maps and keep cash

Dress in layers (windproof jacket + gloves recommended)

Respect signage, restricted zones, and photography rules near sensitive areas

Keep the area clean—no littering, no loud music, no unnecessary risks
