आप वैतरणी नदी कैसे पार करते हैं?
गौ दान का महत्वकहा गया है कि मनुष्य को अपने जीवनकाल में कम से कम एक गाय का दान अवश्य करना चाहिए। नरक की नदी वैतरणी (वैतरणी) को पार करने के लिए व्यक्ति को जीवन में एक बार गौ दान अवश्य करना चाहिए। ऐसा करने वालों को सीमित समय में नदी पार कराया जाना तय माना जाता है।
गरुड़ पुराण में यमलोक के बारे में बताया गया है कि ये एक लाख योजन क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है और इसके चार मुख्य द्वार हैं. पापियों के लिए यमलोक का रास्ता काफी कष्टकारी बताया गया है. इस रास्ते में वैतरणी नदी का भी उल्लेख मिलता है. इस नदी का दृश्य भी इतना भयानक है कि सुनकर ही आप अंदर से कांप जाएंगे.
गरुड़ पुराण के मुताबिक जिस तरह धरती पर नदी में पानी बहता है, उस तरह इस नदी में खून और मवाद बहता है. नदी के तट पर हड्डियों के ढेर लगे है. पापी व्यक्ति को इस नदी को पार करके निकलना होता है. जिस व्यक्ति के परिजनों ने गाय दान की है, वो आत्मा तो नदी को आसानी से पार कर लेती है, लेकिन बाकी पापी लोग नदी पार करते समय बार बार इसमें डूबते रहते हैं और यमदूत उन्हें बाहर निकालकर बार बार आगे की ओर धकेलते हैं.
पापियों को देखकर गर्जना करती है नदी
गरुड़ पुराण में बताया गया है कि जब यमदूत पापियों को लेकर इस नदी के पास पहुंचते हैं तो नदी बहुत जोर से गर्जना करने लगती है. इसमें बह रहा रक्त खौलने लगता है. नदी में मगरमच्छ, मछली और वज्र जैसी चोंचवाले गिद्ध रहते हैं. ये दृश्य देखकर ही आत्मा डर से कांपने लगती है.
